Workout logging, redesigned: faster, smoother, and more in your control
Logging a workout should feel like training: focused, simple, and in your control.
Over the last while, we’ve been rebuilding parts of OpenLift’s workout experience to make it faster mid-session, easier to review after, and clearer for both beginners and experienced lifters.
What’s new
All-in-one workout view
See your entire workout—exercises, sets, and supersets—in one clean, organized view. The goal is effectiveness and performance: less scrolling, fewer context switches, and faster decisions between sets.

The set table, column by column
We’ve put the most important logging actions into a simple, repeatable pattern. Here’s what each column is for:
- Sets: Add sets as warm-up or working sets, so your workout stays structured the way you actually train.
- Target: Your Progression Playbook recommendation for that exercise in the current session (the target you’re aiming for before you log what you did).
- Weight: A fast input that respects your preferred units (kg/lb), so it works whether you train metric or imperial.
- Reps: A direct input field for what you actually performed.
- Feedback: A dedicated button to leave detailed set/exercise feedback (so “how it felt” is captured clearly, not buried in notes).
Primary & secondary muscle display
Each exercise now surfaces the primary and secondary muscles it targets, so newer lifters can build confidence in what they’re training—and experienced lifters can quickly sanity-check exercise selection.

Exercise history (right when you need it)
Review your recent weights and reps so you can train consistently without guessing. If you’re progressing, it’s easier to see. If you’re not, it’s easier to adjust.
Faster logging (one tap)
Logging is smoother and more forgiving—especially during busy workouts:
- Track weights and reps with fewer taps.
- Tap the effort score to quickly reuse your previous weight and reps when it makes sense.
The goal is simple: less time interacting with your phone, more time actually training.
Supersets & reordering
Structure your workout the way you actually train:
- Add supersets.
- Reorder exercises when your gym is busy, equipment is taken, or you just want a different flow.
Custom rest timer
Rest times aren’t one-size-fits-all. Adjust your rest timer to match your pace—whether you’re moving quickly through accessories or taking full recovery between heavier sets.
New notes system (organized, readable)
Your notes are now easier to review and maintain, with a layout that stays readable and organized over time—sorted by date and workout, so context doesn’t get lost.
Clearer feedback and history
We’ve also improved how feedback is visualized per set and per exercise, so you can connect “how it felt” with what you did—without turning the workout screen into a spreadsheet.

Progression Playbooks: more accurate targets over time
The more training data you log—weights, reps, and feedback—the more accurate your next workout recommendations can be.
No AI, and no black box. It’s OpenLift’s Progression Playbooks engine: a purpose-built system built on training science that uses your history and progressive overload rules to suggest targets for the next session.
From each exercise to the details (and analytics)
From each exercise card, you can jump into the exercise details—everything from “how to do it” steps to deeper history and full workout analytics—so you can review, learn, and make small adjustments without losing the thread of your session.
Who this helps (beginner to advanced)
- If you’re new: you get a calmer workout flow, clearer muscle targeting, and history that helps you learn what “consistent training” looks like.
- If you’re experienced: you get speed, structure (supersets + reordering), and better context to make small, smart decisions session to session.
